Dr. Schenck received his M.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1976. He is currently a Professor and senior staff psychiatrist at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Since 1982 he has been on staff at the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center. In 2009 Dr. Schenck was the Founding President of the International REM Sleep Behavior Disorder Study Group that has held yearly research symposia and that has published numerous collaborative, multicenter, peer-reviewed publications. In 2007, Dr. Schenck and his colleagues Michel Cramer Bornemann, M.D. and Mark W. Mahowald, M.D. created the first Sleep Forensics Unit, named Sleep Forensics Associates (SFA), within the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center.
