Immunotherapy in oncology

More than a century has passed since one of the founders of immunology and experimental oncology, Paul Ehrlich, invented the expression “magic bullets” for treatment strategies that use engineered molecules able to very selectively recognize a target causing a disease and neutralize it. Ehrlich’s model was represented by antibodies and today immunology, with a much wider range of biological and engineerable instruments placed at its disposal by the immune system, represents the frontier of the most advanced and promising fight against cancer.
