Gerry Melino teaches Biochemistry and is Director of the Experimental Medicine and Surgery Department of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.  He is also the director of the programme “Genes-Environment interactions following toxic insults” of the Medical Research Council, Toxicology Unit, University of Cambridge, UK. His scientific work is focused on cell death in tumour and dermatological models (H-index 95; 41780 citations); as for his publishing work, he is the editor in chief and founder of the scientific journals of the publishing group Sringer-Nature, Cell Death Discovery (www.nature.com/cddiscov), Cell Death Disease (www.nature.com/cddis) and Cell Death Differentiation (www.nature.com/cdd), which are considered the main discussion forum for the international community working on cell death.
