Giacomo Rizzolatti graduated in Medicine and specialised in Neurology at Padova. He became a professor of Human Physiology in 1975.
Dr. Rizzolatti is an emeritus professor and director of the National Research Council’s (CNR) Neuroscience Unit. He is a member of the Accademia dei Lincei, Academia Europaea, Académie Francaise des Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences and National Academy of Sciences.
He has won the Feltrinelli Prize for Medicine, the 2007 Grawemeyer Award for Psychology, the Premio Princesa de Asturias and the Brain Prize for Neuroscience. He is the recipient of honorary degrees from the Universities of Claude Bernard in Lyon, Saint Petersburg, Leuven, Sassari, San Martín de Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
