Primiano Iannone is Director of the National Centre for Clinical Excellence, Quality and Treatment Safety at the National Health Institute (ISS) since January 2017. He supervises the National System of Guidelines (SNLG, instituted by Law 24/2017) and is a member of the SNLG Strategic Committee (Legislative Decree 27/2/2018).
He has directed the production of new methodological and quality standards for the national guidelines, opening lines of research and collaboration between the ISS and GRADE Working Group International.
He serves as the ISS’s scientific reference for the National Commission charged with updating the Essential Levels of Assistance, as well as for the National Healthcare Board (Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Evidence-based Healthcare Area).
Dr. Iannone represents the ISS in the Crisis Unit Task Force of the Directorate General of Health Programming- Office 3- Clinical Risk and Health Programming, under the Ministry of Health.
He is also the ISS’s designated expert for various working groups under the National Agency for Regional Health Services (AGENAS) and Ministry of Health, including those dedicated to indicators of healthcare quality and safety, health emergencies, assistance-related infections, oncology and rare diseases.
Since January 2018 he has served as president of the Ethical Committee of Large-Area Central Emilia.
From 2010 to 2016 he was Director of the Admitting and Emergency Medicine and Surgery Complex for Local Health Authority (ASL) n. 4 Chiavarese, in Liguria, as well as Director of the Emergency Department, on leave of absence.
He is a member of the Ligurian network of Health Technology Assessment. From 1991 to 2010 he served as Head Physician of Internal Medicine for Imola’s ASL.
He is the author of more than 150 scientific publications, many of which have appeared in prestigious international peer-reviewed journals.
