Silvio Garattini graduated in Medicine and Surgery and is a lecturer in Pharmacology and Chemotherapy. He founded the IRCCS Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in 1961 and is its current director. He has served as president of the Institute since June 2018. He is the author of hundreds of scientific articles published in national and international journals, as well as numerous books on pharmacology.
Dr. Garattini co-founded the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer. He is currently a member of the National Committee for Bioethics and of the National Research Council’s Ethics Commission.
The recipient of numerous awards and honours, he has been awarded honorary degrees by the Universities of Bialystok (Poland), Barcelona (Spain) and Milan.
