President Swedish Society of Medicine and Associate professor, Karolinska Institutet
Dr Alfvén is the president of the Swedish Society of Medicine and works as senior clinical lecturer at the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet and as a pediatrician at Sachs’ children and youth hospital in Stockholm. Dr Alfvén has for the last 20 years combined research, clinical medicine in pediatrics and work for the United Nations both in the field at HQ. Dr Alfvén leads the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health and his research portfolio covers issues from how the Sustainable Development Goals interact and influence child health to issues related infectious diseases in low-resource settings. When working for the UN Dr Alfvén was a member of the UN Inter-Agency Expert Group on the Millennium Development Goals.
